They can be used to get information on the <strong>atoms or molecules in the material being studied, as well as their concentrations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e7a63e7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e7a63e7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Optical spectroscopy focuses on the <strong>interaction between light and matter<\/strong>, enabling us to study the <strong>electronic and vibronic transitions<\/strong> of a material. These techniques are non-destructive: a beam of light (from UV to near IR) is directed onto the sample.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-08bcdba elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"08bcdba\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>In absorption<\/strong>, part of the light beam is analysed after its absorption or reflection by the material. It can be used for <strong>colorimetric measurements<\/strong>, <strong>bandgap<\/strong> measurements for semiconductors and <strong>solution titration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6abba87 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6abba87\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In photoluminescence, following excitation due to the absorption of part of the beam, a light emission can be observed at an other wavelength than the one of the incident beam. This technique provides information on <strong>excitatory impurities introduced into a matrix<\/strong>, <strong>excitons created in semiconductors<\/strong>, or reveals the <strong>presence of certain atoms<\/strong> in natural samples. Time-resolved photoluminescence studies of decays enable us to monitor the dynamics of photogenerated species (lifetimes, exciton migration, understanding of energy or charge transfers).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section
