Surface analysis

Depending on the definition, the surface of a material is the area from the first atomic layers to the first tenths of nanometers. Because of its interaction with the external environment, this part of the material can have very different properties from the bulk core regarding composition, crystalline structure and physical properties. Its topology also influences the surrounding environment via roughness, chemical bonds, adsorbed compounds, etc.

The PLASSMAT platform features tools for surface analysis using microscopy, spectroscopy and topology characterization techniques. Some techniques, traditionally dedicated to volume analysis, also have specific configurations dedicated to surface analysis.
